Are you shopping for a new car to send with your son or daughter to college? Or looking for a second car for your spouse? We’re guessing you try to keep up with the newest luxury cars on the market, just like we do. There are plenty of hot rods out there, but if you’re looking for something a little more low-key, there are also a few new luxury compacts, perfect for a second car or a gift for a loved one. We took a look at Car and Driver and are pretty impressed with three brands in particular.
With a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, a chassis tuned like a sports car, and standard all-wheel drive, the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 4Matic offers great performance on the road. Even though this car has a 2.0-liter engine, it still gives the driver a lot of power – 355 horsepower, in fact. This get-up-and-go is packed into a small package that you’re sure to love. The only downside is that the designer prioritized power over style. There isn’t a lot of comfort in the interior, though you can get all the bells and whistles for a bit more cash.
If you’re looking for a Benz that’s less expensive but still stylish, take a look at the CLA Class. This car is perfect if you’d like entry-level luxury but don’t need excessive power. In other words, it’s a nice luxury compact for city driving. The car can ride rough over potholes, but it still manages to zip along just fine with decent acceleration and torque. The curvaceous body might just make you fall in love. Overall, it’s an affordable way to introduce yourself to the luxury of a Mercedes.
Car & Driver lists the A3 and the S3 on their list of top-rated compact luxury cars. The smaller A3 has a reshaped body and better tech for 2018, including Audi’s new Virtual Cockpit. If you’re looking for a spiffy ride with increased voice command functionality, this might be a winner. This model is definitely catching up to the rest of the Audi line-up with a 4-cylinder engine, a reshaped grill, and precise steering.
Another great performer in a small package, the S3 comes with all-wheel drive, a sport-tuned suspension, and 7-speed automatic standard. Like the A3, it’s got better interior technology than we’ve seen from Audi before. Plus, better style that Audi lovers will notice immediately. The Audi’s handling and stability are top-notch, allowing this car to zip around curves and uneven roads with ease. The only downside we can see is the rather cramped interior, but for a young, single driver, this won’t be a problem. See for yourself whether this model is worth the price tag.
The 2-series, with the choice of coupe or convertible, is called “delightful” by Car and Driver. Perfect for effortless, real-world driving, this model looks sharp and performs well. It may not be as sporty as the M2, but it’s a great cruiser and a perfect starter car in the luxury market. The interior is refined and the steering is precise. Even without Audi’s Virtual Cockpit system, it’s well-equipped and affordable.
What’s number one according to Car and Driver? You might have guessed … it’s the pint-sized M2. If you’ve always wanted a snappy Beemer, then this model is for you. With a top speed of 163 mph and precise handling, this car can go to 60 in just 4 seconds. It’s cool enough for a pro, and the exemplar of compact luxury for the everyday driver. It’s got responsive steering and comfortable seating for city driving. Honestly, we’re thinking about picking one up ourselves.
You never know. Several newer cars are quickly becoming classics! Whether you intend to drive your new luxury compact or save it for the next generation, this list gives you a good start. And remember, JP Logistics will be happy to ship it for you. Happy shopping!
